Of course, I grew up just a couple of hundred feet from a very busy railroad, so I'm a bit of an outlier.

I remember the first time my wife stayed with me at my parents' place in Index. She woke me up in the middle of the night by digging her nails into my arm. "What is that sound?!" she shouted.

I paused, trying to listen for whatever she was talking about over the sound of the train. "I don't know," I answered. "Let's wait until the train goes by; maybe I'll be able to hear it, then!"

The fingernails stopped digging into my arm as she realized what was going on. I, of course, was still trying to hear the sound she was talking about, but it was so hard with that train going past.Willhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16668026658876043857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-896567524976993574.post-34890722575217243382010-06-18T12:48:12.943-07:002010-06-18T12:48:12.943-07:00I think I'd have a lot of trouble staying off ...I think I'd have a lot of trouble staying off of those tracks.
